About the event
Did you know that salmon return to McSorley Creek at Saltwater State Park every fall? Coho and Chum use the stream to spawn after spending years out in Puget Sound and the ocean.
Volunteer to help count and survey salmon and McSorley Creek. It is a fun and interesting activity and collects important scientific data about the salmon and the creek. The surveying season runs from October through December. Volunteers work in teams of two and are asked to volunteer once a week for roughly an hour and a half each week. If you have a survey buddy in mind, let us know. If not, we can provide one. We’ll discuss schedules during the training.
Training is provided, and needed before you can begin gathering data. You will learn about salmon and their life cycle, how to identify the different species like coho and chum, and how to collect data…
