About the event
Winter high tides at Saltwater State Park beach act like a beacon for logs to congregate. The water movement on the east side of the Sound generally flows northerly. However, the creek mouth is so extended and fortified with a rock jetty it unfortunately, it blocks the northerly flow of logs and acts more like a pocket full of logs. The park is only allowed to move logs between April and October. However, we can move a few around and send them past the mouth of the creek while the tide is ebbing.
Our goal is to pry some of these logs off the beach; get them a float and take them north of the creek. Saturday 28, after bulk of the king tides will be a 12.5 ft tide at 9:50. To take advantage of the high tide meet time is 8:30.-11am We will survey the area and figure out our plan. Depending how many of us are there we might two groups , one that works on dislodging logs and other group relocating logs.
Recommended gear for divers, though this is not a dive activity. snorkeling gear with gloves hood and protective suit and if you have a scooter will help tow on the surface. For participants not getting wet. recommend waterproof boots up to knee or higher and warm gloves, rain jacket and appropriate clothing for the weather. We have some few strong ropes, a couple log rollers, pry bars to help the process. Any other tools you would like to bring are welcome. No power tools are allowed.
With our exciting winter weather there is always a chance of inclement weather in which we will cancel the event an notify you by Friday.
Any questions please RSVP.
